Tron 3 is a No Go
We all know that the Disney slate is a full one.
- Marvel is putting out 2-3 films a year.
- Star Wars is beginning to gain steam.
- Pixar is making a come back!
- There are live actions Disney remakes of animated classics coming at us at an alarming rate.
- And let us not forget Disney Animation is experiencing a bit of a second renaissance with the success of Tangled, Wreck It Ralph, Frozen and Big Hero 6!
Needless to say, there’s a ton coming up at Disney.
Something had to give! That something was the next installment of Tron. The third installment of the 1982 Disney high tech computer generated/ live action hybrid is a no go.
The film was announced to be in development in April.
“Disney has chosen not to move forward with a third installment in the sci-fi series, sources say. While sources say the project was never officially greenlit, earlier this year it seemed that things were moving ahead…”
There is much speculation as to whether the underperformance of Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland had anything to do with this decision. The second installment of Tron, Tron: Legacy, had become somewhat of a fan boy classic, but it seems Disney live action will be staying in “remakes of animated classics” wheelhouse for a while, to both the joy and chagrin of the movie going public.
