Studio Ghibli’s Top 5 Films #4

Welcome back to my top 5 favorite Studio Ghili films! If you have not read our first entry please go read it here for a brief history of Studio Ghibli and my opinion on the films in general.

Number 4

“Kiki’s Delivery Service” directed by Hayao Miyazaki is a delightful film that like most Studio Ghibli films highlights the strength and independence of girls and women. “Kiki” has a solid English voice cast of Kristen Dunst, Janeane Garofalo and the legendary Phil Hartman. Anyone who knows Phil Hartman should be excited to hear him play a cat. If you don’t know him please take the time to watch his SNL or News Radio clips. He was one of the funniest men alive and his life ended quite tragically.

I held off watching “Kiki’s Delivery Service” for a very long time. Nothing on the cover interested me as it looks like it is made for little girls. That was my mistake because it’s a magical, heartwarming tale of a young girl adventuring out on her own to make her mark on the world. Kiki is a deep character who is brave, strong and compassionate. That being said not everything goes Kiki’s way, the world throws her obstacles that make her question her own strengths and purpose.

Putting “Kiki’s Delivery Service” at number 4 was my toughest decision. This is a very special film and for a lot of people it’s their favorite from Studio Ghibli. You would not be wrong to have it as your favorite but the next 3 in the list all have such originality that it’s just hard for any of the others to compete.

What would you have at number 4? Like always if you haven’t seen “Kiki’s Delivery Service” stop doing what your doing, run home and start watching it immediately.
