Studio Ghibli’s Top 5 Films #2
Welcome back to my top 5 favorite Studio Ghibli films! Check out number 3 here, number 4 here and number 5 here. Now you might be like ummm Dale there are only 2 left and I can think of 3 or 4 films that should be in these 2 spots. Well I’m going to Chris Pratt this and Pre-apologize…I am sorry for what is about to happen. I didn’t mean to offend you and I think those other films you like are great too, I REALLY do. I didn’t know how important this was to you and I misjudged us, I’m sorry. I know you work at a video store or comic book shop and I understand you know better than I do. These are just the ones I like and I’m sorry for that. I will do everything in my power to make it up to you, I promise.
“My Neighbor Totoro” directed by Hayao Miyazaki is a touching and heartfelt story about a family dealing with a sick mother and moving into a new home. It has the voice of Superman Tim Daly as the Dad so that wins me over pretty quick. “My Neighbor Totoro” has an awesome theme song and a magic that seems as real to me as anything I experience in the world. The film teases you with the validity of the magic the girls are experiencing. It’s almost as if the magic exists somewhere between imagination and dreams. My kids loves this movie, which I am always impressed about because the pacing is not like other cartoons they watch.
I rate this movie so high because it’s very mature but speaks to children directly. It’s dealing with some very deep emotions and serious life altering events. While still having time for a magical cat bus, yeah that’s right a cat bus! This film also accomplishes everything it sets out to do, which does not often happen in films.
Hayao Miyazaki just announced he’s coming out of retirement to direct a CG animated flim! I am very excited for this and if he is able to come anywhere close to the level of “My Neighbor Totoro” it will be up for a best picture Oscar and not just a best animated picture. Totoro is a very special film and if you haven’t seen it yet you will be sad it hasn’t been in you life once you do.
Please tell us what is your number 2! If you haven’t seen “My Neighbor Totoro” yet stop whatever it is you’re doing and go see it. Then tell us what you thought! Next week is my number 1 choice. What do you think it will be? Tweet @thedcast with your guesses.
